(Continued from the introduction of Lucifer Seelenlos de Inferni.)
Lucifer sat staring at the floor for a moment mindlessly stroking Cameron's fur. What if she doesn't like us Cam... What if she thinks we're monsters just like everyone else? She thought to herself and she curled her head towards her legs and clenched her bear to her chest. But we aren't monsters... We don't know what we are... Her petite figure began to tremble as she thought about all those who tried to hurt her in the past, and what a long past she had. Wipe those thoughts out of your mind! A much harsher voice pounded through her mind and she sat up startled. Lucifer raised herself off of the floor with a gust of warm air and started to float toward the entrance of the hall.
“I need some air, pardon me.” She spoke as she moved further away. I need to find a different host body, this one is getting soft. She looked up as a large raven flew in front of her as if to block her path.
“Am I not allowed to leave?” She asked out loud, her quiet voice trembling from earlier. The raven's eyes were deep and emanated a message that she did not understand. She turned around to face the hooded figure above her as if to direct the question in her direction.

Aleria sat back in the hall, lounging in the dark throne-like chair with one leg dangling over the thin metal arm. Let her go Caliga. I wish to observe what our young guest shall do.
But my lady... If she is truly who you believe, is it wise to have her slip from your grasp yet again? the raven inquired, continuing to eye the girl clutching the bear to her chest.
"I apologize for Caliga," Aleria spoke aloud to the child, "he does have an insubordinate streak on occasion. You may come and go as you please, you have been keyed into our wards. But, it would put my mind at ease if you take this when you go," the Fallen held out a sapphire pendant.
The stone, shaped like a teardrop, was quite solid though it appeared to be filled with smoke, or mercury, depending on how one looked at it. The long silver chain pooled in her hand, slipping through slender fingers as she extended it towards Lucifer. "It is a simple charm for protection, and guidance through the woods. We would hope that you would return to us," she added softly, a hidden smile gracing her lips.

Lucifer looked back at the bird who had barricaded her exit. It's always birds. Why do birds have a problem with me, I've done nothing to them. She wondered before looking back toward the lady in front of her. She studied the stone as it glistened in the dark room, though she was curious about it's true purpose she floated forward and reached for it. As she held the chain in her small hands she felt at ease with it, like it became a part of her as she held it. “It is rather pretty, don't you think Cameron?” Lucifer slipped her head through the chain and held her bear up as if it could see.
“I will return, I just need to clear my head. This place is quite nice, I like it.” She looked down at her feet as she spoke, leaving her true intentions to herself. I really hope I can stay here... Finally find a place to call home. “Don't worry about me, I'm tougher than I look.” Lucifer grinned and started toward the entrance again, pausing momentarily to let the raven move from her path.
“Merry meet.” The small child hurried through the doorway and outside of the Sanctuary walls.
The smell of people in a nearby village blew into her face as she floated over tree roots. Breathing in the smell Lucifer turned toward the East and moved slightly quicker, the moonlight glimmering off her hair as it moved in the breeze. I hope I can find a decent host. Something older, taller, less childish but not too mature. I wonder if there is a reasonable boy there. I've always preferred a male host. They last longer.
She allowed her mind to wander as she followed the scent through the air. Caliga... Seems to be a wise bird. I wonder how that lady got it to obey her like that. I've always fancied myself a pet.

The woman stood as Lucifer left, staring out the window but not truly seeing. As Caliga came to perch on her shoulder, she ran an absentminded finger through his feathers. I know that you have your own suspicions about her, but I believe this is the best way for us to confirm, or disprove, them, Caliga.
The emerald eyed bird nipped lightly at her fingerless gloves, I trust your judgement, my lady, as always. I just do not wish to see you sad again. You are so close to happiness... his low soothing voice trailed off as he fluttered back to perch on the throne.
Aleria turned, chuckling to herself she took out a silver bowl, filling it with clear, crystalline water. Two drops of her own silver blood began to swirl into arcane patterns as she gazed down at the surface and chanted softly under her breath. Happiness indeed, she thought to herself.
"Revelare revelare. Omnes enim secreta haec oportet nos rescindimus. Aperi vacui, devolvat abysso. Est enim nulla vestibulum mauris."
An image slowly appeared on the surface, foggy around the edges, but as focused at the centre. She saw the small girl travelling to the East, towards a small village. The pendant, already imbued with her own energy, made it easier to locate her.
"Well, now we shall see just how right... or wrong... we were," Aleria murmured under her breath with a smirk.

The noises of the village hit her before the sight of the buildings or the people. She could here the men grabbing logs to put on their fires, the women cleaning the dishes and children begging to stay awake later even though it was already pretty late. Get one alone. She thought. It's always harder to make the switch in front of people and not get caught. Remember, it's harder to switch to an older host than it is the other way around.
She looked around trying to figure out how she was going to get someone alone. What if I.... Perfect! Lucifer grabbed some dirt and patted it against her clothing, placed Cameron at the base of the large tree and then threw herself against its roots. “Oof!” Her knees scraped against the roots and rocks on the ground and blood started to form at the surface of her skin. Rubbing dirt into her hair she started to cry out.
“Help me! Somebody help me!” She bellowed, tears running down her face. After lifting herself from the ground she stumbled closer to the village, crying out for help. To play a good role, you have to look the part. She smiled internally as tears streamed down her face creating streaks in the dirt. And my my have I out done myself this time.
Lucifer could hear the sounds of villagers rushing to the sound of a child in distress. This is so much easier at this age. She could see in the distance the shape of a tall male running to her.
“I've got you! Do not worry, I'm not going to hurt you.” His voice was soft as velvet, skin pale and eyes that couldn't decide if they were brown or green. He smiled down to her and reached his arms out to her.
She rushed into his arms and wrapped hers around his chest tightly. Her cries muffled in his shirt but her body trembled against his with the force of her sobs.
Stroking her hair and trying to calm her the boy picked her up and started carrying her toward the center of the village. Other villagers gathered around to gawk at the pair. “Shhh... It's alright now, you're safe. I've got you.” His voice was even and calming. “My mother will clean out your wounds and you can stay with us tonight.” He rocked her gently as he walked. “Where are your parents?”
“I... I... I don't know!” Lucifer forced the words out through her sobs. “The... The thing in the woods...” She buried her face back into his shoulder. Gotcha.
The boy pushed open the door to his house and carried her into the main room where his mother stood at the counter. Her face dropped and she rushed out of the room to get bandages and a cloth to clean the young child. “What happened, Joseph?”
“I found her like this. She was screaming and running away from something in the woods.” He lowered her onto a chair and pushed her hair out of her face. “You're alright now, you'll be cleaned up in no time.”
After the boys mother cleaned and bandaged her shins she washed her hair and clothed her in some of Joseph's clothes from when he was young. “Rest easy child. Lay your head to rest and we will talk in the morning.” She spoke as she placed a blanket over Lucifer in the spare bed in Joseph's bedroom. “Joseph will be right here,” she motioned to the other bed, “if you need anything throughout the night.”
Lucifer nodded to the lady, closed her eyes and pretended to go to sleep. Perfect. Male. Handsome. Tall. He looks pretty strong, much better than this weak form I'm in now. Moments later Joseph entered the room and started to get ready for bed. “Joseph...” She whispered. “Can you read me a story?” Everyone has a soft spot for little girls in distress. It will be sad to lose that quality.
“Of course.” Joseph crawled onto the bed beside Lucifer with one of his favourite books and began to read.
Lucifer moved closer and rested her head against his chest. She closed her eyes and began the switch. Her soul flowed out of the female host and started to take over the boy. His soul was older than hers and took quite a bit more effort to move. He gasped for breath and couldn't move as he felt his soul being torn from his body. The process took nearly all night but by morning Lucifer's soul had traded places with Joseph's.
“I'm going to enjoy this body. I hope you enjoy mine.” Lucifer lifted himself from the bed, allowing the female body with Joseph's soul to slide onto the bed. He looks so peaceful. Just wait until he wakes up a girl! He chuckled to himself as he started to leave the room. Now... To leave without anyone getting suspicious. He slipped out of the house with no problem as the mother was out for her morning routine. The village centre was a little more difficult. He had to hide behind buildings and stick to the cover of the shadows.
At last... The edge of the forest. Lucifer lifted his hand to the stone around his neck and grabbed it. He found his way back to the tree that he threw his other host body against and grabbed Cameron in his free hand. You got dirty! Bath time when we get back. He felt the stone pulsate in the hand that held it and felt a mystical pull guide him back to the Sanctuary. Now how am I going to explain this to the lady with the Raven...

Aleria observed the switch for the first few minutes before turning away. It appeared to be a slow process, and though she was a patient being, she had little interest in watching the girl sleep. Chuckling again to herself, as the images played across the surface of the water, she called Caliga to her from his perch on the windowsill. An interesting development, yes? Well now, let's not tarry.
With that, she rose, making her way out of the main hall into the entry way, taking a seat on the fountain as she spoke with Caliga.
It seems, Milady, that you are indeed correct. Shall I fetch it for you?
"Please do," she murmured aloud as her long fingers swirled delicate patterns in the glowing liquid of the fountain. There was little more she could do tonight, but for the first time in many lifetimes, she felt hope begin to blossom in her chest. This promise had been a long time in fulfilling, and the road ahead was longer still. Doubt nagged at the back of her mind for but a moment - what if Lucifer had no wish to see her again, as he had once seen her? What if it had all been for naught?
The thoughts were banished as quickly as they had appeared. Aleria had sworn an oath, one she would keep regardless of any obstacle. If she had to do her duty from the shadows, then so be it. Her thoughts brought her outside, to the Citadel. The moon was high, the breeze chasing away the clouds that threatened rain overhead. The Fallen turned her face upwards to watch Caliga circle the tower, her cerulean eyes reflecting the night sky. She could feel Lucifer's presence through the amulet she'd bequeathed her - him, she corrected herself mentally - the knowledge that he was safe enough to put her at ease for now. Not that she had doubted it - evidently he had survived this long without help, now would be no different.
After all, she mused, this is only the beginning. Eternity awaits.

The morning sun peaked over the trees of the forest as Lucifer approached the Citadel. The glow of the sun against the tall stones and the path leading to the entrance shimmered from the silver flecks in the stone. Lucifer walked slower as he got closer. I could just pretend to be someone else... No, that wouldn't work. Raven girl isn't stupid I doubt she would believe that seeing as I've got the pendant and Cameron. He started pacing back and forth in front of the large doors. I guess I should just go in and see where the conversation goes.
Lucifer pushed the doors open with ease that was unfamiliar to him. Stepping through the threshold he looked around hoping that he would be alone and have some time to think some more about how to explain his situation. Maybe she's like all the others and will try to experiment on me... I hope not. I hope she will understand. He didn't get nervous easily, in fact he hasn't been nervous in years. The last time he felt like this he was laying on a medical bed attached to cords and he was being prodded with needles and shot up with drugs every couple hours: it was horrible.
“Your Grace?” He shuffled in slowly and moved toward the table underneath the large oak tree in the center of the area. He slipped the teardrop pendant from around his neck and placed it next to the leather book that eerily sat on the middle of the table.
Here goes nothing.

Milady, he has returned, Caliga's call roused Aleria from the half-slumbering state she'd slipped into while sitting in her study. With a nod to the raven, she stood and called out gently with her mind to her guest.
Lucifer? It is I, Aleria. There is a book on the table outside, if you could retrieve it, I will meet you inside.
Trusting that he received her communication, the Fallen slipped from her chair and made her way down from the tower that housed her chambers. She had retired as the sun had begun to rise - even after many centuries it still did her little good to be about when day broke. Slipping the mask back in place around the lower half of her face, Aleria drew up her hood. The long brocade coat brushed the marble floor, her glowing eyes illuminating a haunting silhouette as she wound around the marble staircase.
I wonder if it is too soon, she mused to herself, I doubt he will be trustful of me after this transformation - others certainly have been unkind to him. My sources were vague and unreliable at least, and I have just caught his trail again after nearly a century of silence... Time will tell, etiam?
Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Aleria wandered back to the entrance hall. Figuring she would greet him in the foyer, rather than her 'throne room' as Xaeir liked to call it, she hung a left and came to stand before the massive stone and iron doors that guarded the entrance to her sanctuary. In one fluid leap, Aleria came to sit atop the fountain - a seat that would allow her to avoid the brunt of the sunlight sure to spill through the doors when Lucifer walked in.
Aleria rested her chin in the palm of her hand as she waited, turning her thoughts inward. Xaeir, you have been rather silent about this whole thing. That is unlike you.
If the spirit of the swords at her hip had a form capable of shrugging, Aleria swore they would have done so in that moment. I always knew you would be reunited. Whether it be now, or in the next life, or the one after that. As for the danger Caliga perceives... Well we are all old beings, Exo. Despite what you tell him, Caliga may, in some small way, always blame the Lightbringer for what happened to the both of you. I think he simply fears after your safety. After all, he has been the only one to watch over you since the very beginning. Xaeir's voice whispered in her mind like steel on leather, a comfort to the tumult Aleria felt within.
I know... But as I have told him many times, one cannot simply steal my powers. I gave it to the Father just as freely as I gave it to Lucifer in the first lifetime.
As I recall, Xaeir chuckled, You did not give the power to your Father so freely.
Aleria rolled her eyes, It was not my intention to be so... insubordinate. Not at the time.
And now?
And now it does not matter. All I want is my brother to reclaim the power that is rightfully his.
To reclaim you, you mean. Xaeir's voice softened, as Aleria clasped her hands in her lap and looked down at her intertwined fingers solemnly.
Yes.
We cannot always get what we want.
I am well aware. I will take what I can get, she paused, Regardless of me... This life he lives - fearful, running, with no where to belong and feel safe - he does not deserve that.
No one does.
Aleria looked away, Perhaps not, she replied before cutting off the communication, focusing rather on the colourful patterns projected by the stained glass windows on the floor.
Perhaps I do.
