Lucifer sat staring at the floor for a moment, she was holding her Cameron closely to her chest. 'What if she doesn't like us... What if she thinks we're monsters?' She thought to herself. 'Blasphemy. We are nothing of the like. Wipe that thought out of your mind, right away.' A much more harsh voice pounded through her petite head. Lucifer raised herself off of the floor, not by standing but by heating the air below her to allow her to float upon it. She twirled herself in the air for a moment, as any child would do. 'It's about time I transferred myself to an older host.' She began floating toward the entrance to the hall but was stopped when a large raven blocked her way.
"Am I not allowed to leave?" She asked the raven in her small quiet voice. The raven's eyes were deep and held a message she did not understand. What she did understand was that she was to turn around. 'Maybe I should ask, her Grace. Maybe she will let me out... I just want to walk... And.. Well. Take an innocent body for my own.' A menacing smirk played upon her face as she floated forward.

Aleria sat in the large hall, still leaning her head on her palm. Let her go, Caliga. I want to see what she's going to do.
Naturally, the raven did not obey her immediately, and stopped the girl anyways. Sighing, the Fallen stood, and walked over to the large picture window. The Atrum Angelus knew very well that the girl would soon come here to ask permission to leave.
Caliga, now, please. Return. I wish for you by my side when she comes to visit. Also, fetch the pendant from the upper tower please.
Milady... the raven's voice was high and raspy as he turned back and began to edge away from the girl, Is this wise? We have spoken on her subject already.
We each have our suspicions Caliga, I know. However, this could be the best way to prove their validity.

Lucifer turned her head slightly and looked back at the bird who had barricaded her inside the hall. It's always birds. What do birds have against me anyways? She wondered before facing forward and continuing toward the figure who was now facing a large window. The child clutched Cameron tightly to her chest as she moved closer.
"Your Grace, your Raven blocks the exit. I wish to leave..." She looked down at her feet as the words left her mouth. I really need to learn how to talk to other people more politely... "That is.. If you will allow it." Her eyes looked up to the female figure and glistened in the faint lighting. "I only want to examine the surroundings and explore." Her voice was soft and delicate as she explained herself, though she left her true intentions to herself.

Aleria did not even bother to turn, she had known the girl would come here. You should have just let her leave, Caliga. She reprimanded the raven as he came to land on her shoulder. The stately bird just ruffled his feathers, preening his port wing. From his talons a small pendant floated into her hands, coming to rest between her fingers.
"Of course. You may come and go as you please. Caliga just likes to know everything that is going on. But here," finally she turned, and held out a small sapphire pendant shaped like a teardrop on a silver chain, "take this. It will guide you back through the wood safely."

Lucifer reached up to receive the pendant very hesitantly. She turned it in her hands once before she fastened the sapphire pendant around her neck loosely. The raven perched upon the woman's shoulder unnerved her. "A wise bird," was all she could remark. She turned her face from the raven to the woman and bowed her head. "Thank you. Merry meet."
The small girl all but hurried through the door, nearly tripping over the threshold. Silly feet... Work! She let the air carry her as far North as she desired before stopping and raising her nose to the sky. A faint scent of human filth filled her nose as the wind swept quickly passed her from the East. East it is. Hope there's something decent... She set out in that direction, floating on the air, and being cautious of her surroundings.

Aleria turned, A wise bird indeed. Chuckling to herself she took out a silver bowl, filling it with clear, crystalline water. Two drops of her own silver blood began to swirl into arcane patterns as she gazed down at the surface and chanted softly under her breath.
"Revelare revelare. Omnes enim secreta haec oportet nos rescindimus. Aperi vacui, devolvat abysso. Est enim nulla vestibulum mauris."
An image slowly appeared on the surface, foggy around the edges, but as focused as an eagle's perception at the center. She saw the small girl travelling to the East, towards a small village. The pendant made it easier to locate her, since it was already imbued with her energies. Well, we shall see how this turns out.

The noises of the village hit her before the sight of the buildings or the people. Get one alone... She thought. It's always harder switching from a young child to an older human that it is the other way around.. Remember the old man Lucifer? She shook her head mentally as she made her way forward. She stopped to take a break and come up with a plan. Dirt. Brilliant! She grabbed dirt from the ground and patted it on her clothing, limbs and face. She messed up her hair and purposely fell against large tree roots, skinning her shins and knees and forming tears in her eyes. To play a good role you have to look the part. And my my have I out done myself this time.
She screamed at the top of her lungs. "Help me! Somebody help me!" She bellowed, tears running down her face. Tumbling she made her way closer to the village and saw people rushing toward the sound of a child in distress.
"Oh dear! Poor child, come with me. Let's get you cleaned up. My mom will take good care of you. She's the town nurse." Said a young man as he lifted her into the air. "Don't you worry."
Perfect. Male. Hansome. Strong and polite? What better things could you ask for? Now.. Luce just hold on until others aren't around. She bit her lips and leaned against the boy. She had no idea when the switch would happen. She can make it happen but she cannot stop it if it happens prematurely.
Five minutes later the young man was setting her on the sofa of an empty room. "Wait right here. I'll be right back with something for those cuts." He said as he looked down to her knees.
"Mister..." Lucifer grabbed for his hands. "Wait a minute." Her voice was weak with fake pain.
At that moment she allowed her soul to flow into his body and his into the little girls. "I'm going to need you for a while. I hope you enjoy the bruises." He grinned and stood from where he was now standing.
He left the child alone in the living room after removing the pendant and Cameron from her possession. He allowed his new body to lead him to the back door and the pendant to guide him back to the lady with the Raven.

Chuckling again to herself, as the images played across the surface of the water, she called Caliga to her from his perch on the windowsill. An interesting development, yes? Well now, let's not tarry.
With that, she rose, making her way out of the main hall into the entry way, taking a seat on the fountain as she waited for her guests to arrive. [/i]It seems, Milady, that we are indeed correct. Shall I fetch it for you?[/i]
"Please do," she murmured aloud as her long fingers swirled delicate patterns in the glowing liquid of the fountain.

Did this boy not eat? I'm starved... He thought as he walked through the doors he had exited not too long ago. This time, carefully as to not trip again. He was not used to being as tall as he was now and everything seemed to be smaller, less frightening. Children... So easily scared and harmed.
He wandered over to the woman who had handed him the sapphire pendant, unfastened it from around his neck and held it out to her. As he held it he spin it around and let it glisten. "Would you like it back? It is yours after all."

"Not if you are planning on staying here... Just keep it with you. You never know when it may be useful. After all," Aleria looked up, "it is more than it seems."
Standing, she began to wander back into the gloom. "I hope you enjoy your new form. I must warn you though, that changing so many times will have detrimental effects."
An old dusty tome appeared in her hands as Caliga flew in a circle overhead. Silently, the tome floated forward to her guest as shadows wrapped themselves around the woman's form. "There may be some useful knowledge in there... Keep it safe."

He shrugged his shoulders and placed the tear shaped sapphire into his pants pocket. "In the many years I have been alive, burdened with this curse, I have only changed when I need to." He looked at her with an intense gaze. "Merely when I begin to lose my mind, or when my mind begins to lose me."
He closed his hand around the dusty tome, looking down at it slightly before nodding his head to the raven in thanks. "I will take a look. But I am not sure there will be any information that I do not already know. Or rather... Anything at all. I know of none who have such a curse as mine."

"There have been others. Though they were much before your time... and not nearly as fortunate to live as long as you have." Her voice echoed through the hall, though she sat concealed at the top of the stairs. Playing with a few tendrils of shadow, she contented herself to watch the young man, curious about him and his past, blossoming suspicions nagging at the back of her mind.
If he has survived this long, milady. Then perhaps...? Caliga rasped in her mind.
Of course. I will fetch it myself however. Keep yourself out of suspicion, my friend, Aleria replied.
You know I always am, mistress, the emerald eyed raven lofted up towards the ceiling, merely a blur of black feathers and two sparkling emerald against the deep dark that the torchlight couldn't penetrate.

"What do you mean... Others?" He asked, moving closer to her voice. He looked around for the woman, who seemed to have disappeared. What did she mean. As fortunate? He thought to himself as his eyes wandered along the walls.
He sat at the bottom of the steps, sure that she would answer even if he could not see her. "How long did they live? What happened to them?" He moved Cameron to sit beside him on the stairs and the bear lazily tumbled forward and landed flat against the floor. Lucifer lifted the small plush and dusted him off as he waited for an answer to his questions.

"You would do well to read. All that you need to know is there... Trust me, though I knew none of them personally, I have had brief dealings with them." Her voice begins to fade as she floats away through the shadows. Caliga is still circling in the obscurity above, but he eventually drops down to sit on the dark mahogany banister. As he ruffles his feathers, a soft rustling could be heard from the top of the stairs, like a large pair of wings brushing together, and then the Fallen's voice floats down once again.
"And you are fortunate child. You have the chance to harness your curse into a blessing, and use it's true power."

"No curse can be a blessing..." He thought aloud. Lucifer pushed the tome under his arm, stood from the steps and began his climb up in search for a room. I wonder if the raven knows... If the raven is around, though it always seems to linger. He looked around but found himself alone in the dark hall as he climbed the stairs. He stepped carefully and clenched Cameron's paw as he grew closer to the top of the staircase.
When he reached the top of the stairs and turned to his right and walked along the hall. A long row of doors were places on either side of the hall, the doors were blank and similar in style and wear. Lucifer walked to the farthest door and opened it to pee inside. When he realized the room was deserted he entered and claimed the room as his own. It's not as bad as I thought in here, it might actually be cozy. At least cozier than sleeping in the bushes or deserted benches in the park.

Pulling the shadows around her like a cloak, she disappeared up to the tower in which her chamber was. Caliga stared down from the inkiness of the stairwell at the young man before flying off after his mistress.
Do you want me to watch him, milady? the dark bird inquired as the ascended a spiral staircase made of weathered stone.
I can watch him for now, you must deliver to him a gift. We have long waited for this day, my old friend. But do not be conspicuous. He must touch it of his own volition.
Her tall wings brushed the floor as they continued up to what appeared to be a stone wall. Aleria advanced silently and touched her hand to the rough stone, drawing intricate patterns along the seeming blank wall. Silver lines began to appear from her fingertips and a small round stone -previously imperceptible- seemed to melt, becoming viscous. A small pendant that the woman kept around her neck, hidden, floated up and forward to be absorbed by the thick grey substance. Slowly, ever so slowly, the wall shimmered, and a door began to reveal itself. It opened silently on invisible hinges to reveal a room much larger than what one would expect.
The floors were partially covered with deep crimson carpets, and a couple armchairs sat facing a crackling hearth. The walls were lined with bookshelves, and glass display cases that held a myriad of obscure and ancient arcane looking artifacts. The table in the corner was topped with an ornate chess set and overshadowed by a large spiral staircase. Aleria glanced around the room and her wings vanished. Silently, she ascended the stairs, past another floor, to a perfectly circular room. The room was lavishly furnished, with an ornate desk and chair, and silver perch that looked like it must belong to Caliga as he flew directly to it and landed.
In the center of the room was a staircase, the marble and wrought iron created a tight, vertical spiral that closed itself in like a cage, save for the bottom which formed an arch under which the Fallen passed to climb to the uppermost floor, more of an attic than anything.
The room above was dark, and she lit no lights. However Aleria moved silently and swiftly, without touching anything. Eventually, her fingers came to rest on a pewter box which she unlocked with a small skeleton key and pulled out a long, delicate black feather which the shadows took from her hand and carried it back to the waiting raven.
Go to him, Caliga. You know what you must do.
The raven lofted into the air, and left by way of an open window. His wings spread wide against the night sky, he sent a soft whispering reply.
Of course, milady... Exordium.

It's dusty I'll give it that. He thought as he shook a very thick layer of dust and dirt from the blanket he found on the bed. Lucifer shook it a few more times before letting it drape itself over the bed once more. When it had settled he smoothed out the ceases and plopped himself in the middle of the mattress with Cameron beside him. "I can't even remember how we got here.... But that's no shock, I don't remember anything from my past. And that woman likes to keep her distance. Well, I guess it's just you and me old friend. Like always." With that he wrapped his arms around the tattered bear and rolled over to try and sleep.

Caliga promptly flew quickly, winding through the halls until he arrived at the door that was his destination. With a single powerful flap of his wings, the oak structure blew open, and he came in to perch one of the four posters of the bed.
Sleeping. Of course. Well, might as well give our guest a proper place to stay... This place hasn't been cleaned in ages.
With that thought, the raven quickly flapped his wings and the dust seemed to fly away as he pried open the window, then returned to his perch to wait for the young man to awake.
****
Meanwhile, in her tower, Aleria sat down by the crackling fire and delicately flipped through an ancient tome that smelled of must and ink. A thoughtful frown creased her brow and turned her lips as she read.

Lucifer tossed and turned as images flashed across his eyes. His dreams weren't being kind to him as he tried to sleep. He clutched his arms tighter around his bear as a silhouette of a large bird swooped close right passed his face. In his dream a loud thump came from behind him as pieces of a burning building fell and when he turned he was shocked to see the lady with the raven looking down on him. In that moment he found himself jolting awake and sitting up in bed. He looked around to see that the room that had been covered in dust was now spotless and he could feel a draft coming from the once closed window. Hmm... I don't remember opening that... He placed Cameron to the side and stood from the bed to walk over to the window. When he glanced outside he was all but shocked to see the large bird perched as if waiting for him. Well, that could explain the silhouette in my dream. But how did it know I was here?

Caliga fluttered down and sat on the tome before turning around and giving one more powerful stroke of his wings, eliminating the dust. His emerald and golden eyes stared up at the man as he opened the book with a razor sharp talon. In the crease between the pages, he dropped the sleek black feather. The raven then lofted himself into the air to perch back on the window sill and began preening his wings. *** Meanwhile, Aleria drew patterns in the fountain, ever so often flicking droplets of the blue-green liquid into a vial she pinched between two slender fingers. A lovely aroma wafted towards her from outside, and she stood up with a slight smile on her lips. Finally, it has bloomed. It has taken its sweet time in getting here. With those thoughts in mind, she walked swiftly and gracefully out the doors of her Sanctuary to the oak tree in the middle of the Citadel. A full moon shone bright over head as she looked at the single pure white flower that bloomed by the tree. It appeared odd, as if the stem were made of silver. Aleria bent down and pulled out her athame almost reverently to harvest the delicate plant. "Gratias tibi, carus Tellus Matris. Tua liberalitate est quidem magna*," she murmured as the flower was placed in a glass jar she produced from the bag at her hip. She then sat, silent, staring up at the moon, deep in thought. *Thank you, dear Earth Mother. Thy generosity is indeed great.
