Aleria opened her eyes, horrified at what she saw. Her old home, the Dark Temple, Mordare, lay in ruins, flames of darkness still crackling in some places around the one wall that still stood intact, though it threatened to fall at any moment. The stones were all dyed red, as the stench of vampyre blood filled the air.
A figure stepped out of the smoke. Black hair flowed in the warm breeze and steel grey eyes stared at her. Aleria could feel a sense of familiarity wash over her as she whispered softly, icily, "Xaeir....is this your doing?"
Xaeir shook her head, a slight smirk on her lips. "It is only yours, dearest First of the Host. This is what you did.
Horror began to cloud the Fallen's mind, "No....I would never do this...not to my home...."
Xaeir cocked her head with curiosity, and her features began to change into those of a handsome young man, with golden eyes and short cropped blond hair. "Are you sure, Elder Sister?"
Lucifer spoke softly, looking at the young woman before him compassionately. He began to approach her as he continued, "You are the First, before any of the others. You know as well as I that our Father pushed you from Grace because you were becoming too powerful."
Aleria reached out, pulling her younger brother into an embrace as she murmured, "Mordare had a field that dampens my power... Not to mention my own barriers. Can I really surpass that?"
Lucifer sighed softly, returning the embrace and running a hand over her hair, brushing off her cowl as he did so.
He looked into her swirling eyes, whispering, “Come join me, Aleria. Then you will no longer have to worry about anything dampening your power. You could realize your true form again.”
Aleria stepped away, shaking her head, “But my friends are here. I must protect-”
She stopped short, as suddenly images flashed through her mind. Angelus, Cara, Tiger, and everyone else she had come to know within her coven lay immobile within the ruins of the temple. The Fallen realized then that she could no longer sense any signs of life.
“You could bring them back, Sister. Please, come with me.”
She could see genuine tears beginning to form in his eyes as he spoke, “I don’t want to be alone again like I have been since you last left.”
Aleria began to shake her head, then paused. You could bring them back...
Then, she seemed to almost step out of her body, watching the scene in third person, only an observer, unable to do anything to control ‘her’ actions. To her own horror, she watched herself nod, and walk away, hand in hand with the little brother who’d always clung to her, the Devil himself.
Aleria's eyes flew open, the silent scream dying in her throat as she looked around her room within the Cecedit Sanctis. Everything was peaceful, the smell of smoke was gone and the Fallen doubted that it had ever really been present within her home. The only thing that lingered was her brother’s presence. It felt so real, and she knew that it probably was, in some form. Aleria got up, and ran as hard and as fast as she could out of The Sanctuary, finally stopping in the surrounding forest, hardly panting for breath because of the adrenaline that surged through her veins.
After looking around to assure herself that no one was there, she sat down with her back against an ancient Alder tree. As she closed her eyes, she did something that she had never done before.
She cried.
